in another i read thiis post about increasing the lift capacity of the 790 has anyone heard of this ? tried it? and know the ins and outs positives or negatives of doin this besides warranty issues.
I bought a 790 in April of this year w/the 419 loader. I too was disappointed to later find out that it was only 27hp instead of 30hp....my dealer did not know of the change and even after I bought mine the JD website still listed it as being 30hp. I thought of emailing JD for a partial refund, but I think it would be a waste of time. The main complaint I had of mine is that the lift capacity of the loader was very weak......I did a little tweaking on the hydraulic system relief pressure and now it's got some power!! It will now lift more than the weight of the tractor can handle, which is the way it should be. That's why they make heavy implements to put on the 3ph. To anyone else with a 790, I highly recommend turning up the relief pressure.
any help is greatly appreciated instructions are also listed there and i have them will post later. thanks for any insight.
David

Every person will have a different take on if it’s safe and how it affects the tractor….
Well my 2 cents.
I did it. My loader was unable to break out, or lift a load of gravel or even a bucket of fire wood…
So I added one set of shims and the pressure is now 2500 psi. Perfect in my eyes… I think that if you are comforable and know what you can lift and the terain you are on, and counter balanced; it’s fine… The tractor is a rock

sounds like without doin this the unit is not much for loader work. tell me this when you put the gauge on the line too measure it do you put it in line with the loader or just plug it in the loader outlet and cap off the other side. ....

As a manufacturer, I always hate it when someone alters my products then bends or breaks it. My 2¢ is buy a bigger tractor that is designed to lift and handle the weight. ....
