Hey guys,
Got a new L3400 W/ FEL. Love this toy, I mean tool (wife is close by). I ordered the BL4690B backhoe, it will be in next week. Found one problem: the engine cuts off when I leave the seat due to the seat safety switch. I read the Owners Manual about how to prevent this for off the tractor PTO work. Following these instructions does not help. I am wondering how I will be able to operate the BH without disabling this safety switch (which I won't do!!). Am I doing something wrong?

Kubota manual says 1. You must have the PTO clutch in the off position, 2. The shift lever has to be in the neutral postion, 3. You have to be in the seat and the parking brake must be set. It works for me on by BX23! ....

The B7800 safetys require both PTO's off and no hydro pedal unless you are in the seat or it shuts down after a second or two. Mine doesn't require parking brake or being in neutral to dismount.
There is a second seat switch that allows rear pto operation if the seat is flipped forward for log splitters... I don't know about the parking brake interlock in this mode or not but I would think its a good idea to secure the machine somehow while using the pto from a dismounted position.
Personally, I've almost stopped using the parking brake due to problems with CRS. Instead I use the bucket as a parking brake. Kind of hard to drive off with it down and not notice ;)

Followup to my original post. Stopped by my dealer this A.M. & explained the problem to them. The parts counter guy immediately said it was either a defective neutral or parking brake switch. He called a mechanic from the back and asked him to go with me to another L3400 they had for sale. We tried the same procedure on this tractor and it worked great! This mechanic looked at me and said the same thing the parts guy had said!! (The parts guy never told the mechanic what the problem was). When we got back inside, I asked the parts guy how he knew so much about this model tractor. His response was that he tried to know as much as he could about all equipment they sold!!! VERY IMPRESSIVE!! They are going to pick up my L3400 to install the backhoe, subrame, etc. & will address this defect at that time. It really is nice to get this kind of service from a local dealer. ....
