I've had a JD4200 for a little over six months and have checked the battery at least once. When I checked the battery this weekend, there was severe corrosion on the positive terminal with some corrossion on the negative. After removing the battery (which is installed directly in front of the hydraulic oil cooler), I found that the bottom one third of the fins on the cooler had corrosion damage as deep as 1/4". The battery had been incorrectly installed directly against the cooler. There is a notch in the bottom of the battery casing that should fit into the holddown bracket bolt which should keep the battery approximately 1/4" away from the cooler. After removing the corrosion with baking soda solution, my cooler is permanently damaged, but will probably not affect the cooling performance much since I caught it relatively early. If any of you find a similar problem, I would appreciate you e-mailing me so I can contact the factory.

I have had my 4100 for 4 months. The battery arrangement is as you have described on your 4200. I checked the battery and hydraulic oil cooler and both are fine. Obviously you can do what you want to but if I were you I would be contacting my dealer for warranty repairs. ....
