When I dump my bucket with a full heavy load like gravel, it seems to stick three quarters of the way down. If I raise the rpm up it seems to eventually drop the load. When empty it works fine. The tractor is a jd 870. Thanks for any info. Regards mike t.

Mike- also have a 870 and also have the exact some problem . Moved 30 yards of dirt yesterday and the loader sticks on the dump. Higher rpm drops it pretty good. If you find out the answer, I appretiate a call at 17167734008 collect. My work email is bpikas@niagara.edu. Have you talked to a dealer yet? ....

Bo, Sounds like the same problem I have. Only on the dump with a load. My just started doing it about 5 hrs. ago. At more rpm it will dump. But is kind of a hassle. One guy told be to give a good grease-job but to no avail. I will e-mail or call if I find out. I also just changed my filters and fluids and cleaned the pick-up screen but still does it. Maybe the line that controls the drop??? I am no hydralic expect and only had my tractor for a year now. ....

You may an internal leakage problem with your cylinders. If the piston sealsare leaking you will have enough volumn to activate the bucket dump when it isempty, but with a load you would need more volumn to move the bucket, which youwill get when you increase the RPM. On the one that sticks about 3/4 throughthe cycle you might want to see if you have a dent in your cylinder at aboutthat point that could be causing a bind, or distort the seal enouigh to cause itto leak. One possible explanation based on similar occurances in other machines: When dumping a heavily loaded bucket, at the start of the dump cycle the heavy weight in the bucket is pulling so hard on the dump cylinders that they are forced open faster than the hydraulic pump can fill the other end with oil. Consequently, air may be sucked into the head end of the cylinders. Then as the load continues to spill from the partially dumped bucket the weight is no longer enough to keep forcing the cylinders open and it stops moving. However, now there is a soft air pocket trapped in the cylinders. A possible cure for this is to keep the tractor RPMs high when dumping heavy loads such as full buckets of gravel so that the hydraulic pump can do its best to keep up. To try to "burp" the air out, run the bucket through its complete open-close cycle several times. Again this is one possible explanation---not a guaranteed diagnosis. ....

Jack, like your possible diagnosis. Will try it tomorrow. Sounds like a no cost experiment. The problem is not of major significance just a small aggravation. I guess when I get really aggravated then i'll chase the more expensive solutions. Appretiate the comments. Bo ....

good explanation. I was told the same thing some years ago when I had this veryproblem with my Yanmar (the red-colored JD). After playing around with it Inoticed that it seemed to happen at when the loader was facing slightly uphill and the bucket was REALLY loaded, and when I had the bucket higher than normal for dumping. ....

Mike. Was messing around today pulling some old bushes that my wife wanted to replace and I took a closer look at the loader. At the very bottom of the arms where they connect to the bucket are two welded plates about 2 inches square. Both of these have wear marks on the outside edges and only contact the bucket at about three forths of the way down. I wonder if on a heavy load the bucket sags just enough to hang up at idle rpm and extra rpm jerks the bucket past that point? Couln't try a loaded bucket test as it poured last night and my dirt pile is soaked and it also was getting pretty dark. If that is the hang up point then maybe some grease will solve the problem. Check yours and let me know what you find. Bo ....
