Can anyone tell me anything about the JD40 Farm Tractor. There's one for sale in my area and I don't know anything about them. Ideas on where to look for information would be gratefully accepted.

I had one for 2 years and loved it. It's about 20 engine hp, 4 sp. transmission, foot clutch. They had several variations, mine was a tricycle front end, which is ok if you are used to them. If it's your first tractor, and you've no experience be very careful turning and using one on hills. They can tip over if you get rambunctious. That said, I loved mine, I only got rid of it because my wife wouldn't mow with it and I got tired of doing all the mowing. What's the asking price? If it's in good shape, then about $2500-$2800 is reasonable. A little more if it's a wide front end, they get premium prices. ....

The ad reads: JD 40 Farm tractor, loader and backhoe, good shape. Asking $4,500. I will call on it tomorrow, although the price sounds a bit high. Any thoughts on where I might find information on this tractor on the web? ....

A JD40 is a genuine old farm tractor! Try the Antique Tractor Internet Service (ATIS) at www.atis.net to search for more information. There are a bunch of hardcore John Deere antique fans out there. By the way, $4500 sounds like a good price for a tractor with backhoe and loader.Steve O. ....

The price is very good. If this tractor is in half nice shape you are ina position to make money on it. JD 40 parts are available and inexpensive. I would jump on it. This tractor will perform with any of the mid 20 hp compacts. Roger L. ....
