Folks, I am in the market for a tractor. I am going to be moving into a home in a few months with about 6 acres and about 4.5 of this will require mowing/bushoging. I know very little about tractors and have been doing quite a bit reseach in the internet, particuarly this forum. I have found a Massey 240 that the dealer said was a 79 model. Locals have told me that this guy is honest. The tachometer was changed recently so there are hardly any hours on it. It seems to run ok. He's asking $5500. Anyone have any opinions on this price. Opinions on this tractor model?
I also plan to use this to till/ and possibly get a box blade.
The guy selling this only sells used tractors.

Acording to a copy of a tractor guide from 1987, the MF240 was only made in 1983 (beginning serial number = 524172) and 1984 (beginning serial number = 552016). It came with a 3 cylinder Perkins diesel engine and put out about 35 PTO horsepower. It sold new for a little over $11,000. This size tractor should definitely meet the needs you describe. I have no idea as to what a MF240 in average shape would be currently worth. A few years back, I would occasionally borrow a MF235 (mid '70s model, 3 cylinder Perkins, about 40 PTO horsepower) from a neighbor. It was the only Massey I've ever used, but it made a very good impression on me as being solid and well built. Good luck. ....

I would like to sell my MF240 and downsize. It's a 1987 diesel, 35 hp, has about 3000 hours with a 6 foot bush
hog and 6 foot grader blade in good to excellent condition. I am located near Philadelphia. I can e-mail you a picture of it. Let me know if you would be interested.
