My L225 is making a knocking sound when it's in 1st gear. It sounds like the knock is coming from the area of the shifter. Also the high and low range does not work. It is "stuck" in high range, although the lever will move and sounds like it is moving something in the transmission.
Thanks for any and all help.

Sounds to me as you need to remove or get into your shifter forks. It sounds like they missed being where they should be and might need to be replaced or just realgned. ....

Just off-hand I'd suspect a bent shifter rod in the linkage or possibly a bent shifter fork or rail. Linkage problems usually take a manual to diagnosis and repair but often don't require extensive tear down of the tractor. Shifting fork and other internal work also takes a manual and some specialized equipment that's normally required for splitting a tractor. If the latter were required I'd sure think about replacing the clutch etc. while it's split. ....
