Hi:
I've never had a tractor but am going to buy a B7800 to snowblow a quarter mile driveway, grade a little and pull some firewood out of the woods. The only dealer for almost 200 miles around has one on the lot with a 63 inch (I think) snowblower for $15,900, added FEL for $3500 and a rear blade for $600. Is this about right? I would really like to buy locally.
He has turf tires on the rig and he says these are the best snowtires and the tread is more aggressive than in past years. But what about some woods work? Would R4's be a better all around choice and is it reasonable to ask a dealer to swap out tires from a "package deal" already on the lot?

Go with the R4s, you will need them in the woods if the groung is damp. Also, I think they would "track" better in the snow than the turf tires. Sounds to me like the dealer is just trying to make the sale "as is". Also, you can do slightly better on the price....... ....

Do yourself a BIG favor and get the R4's. On ice or snow I really doubt there's enough difference in tire design for tractors that makes much difference. In the woods if you encounter the slightest bit of mud you're stuck with the turf tires. I demod a compact with a rear mount finish mower to mow road ditches, waterways, field borders, etc. It had turf tires 4 WD, but the slightest bit of wet aeria or on any upgrade I was stuck. R-1's (regular farm tractor tread are too agressive and will leave tracks in the lawn, but the R-4's with the wider bars might leave a slight track in the lawn, but you'll really have to look to see it. Jean; In my first reply I'd forgotten you were getting a FEL with the tractor, then absolutely get the R4's, you'll never believe how many times you'll be able to back out of a wet situation with the bucket loaded. I'm asuming you're getting 4 WD. Both my tractors are Deere, so I don't know enough about the prices of other brands to make any comment other than the price for yor FEL sounds about the same as the list on my 430 Deere loader. ....

I have a B7800 and the dealer in central Oregon charged 15,500 for the tractor with the 402 54 inch wide fel the price he charged for a
woods rear blade with tilt 60 inch was 400. I dont know if this area is about the same as your area for pricing. Cy Mohr ....

R4's are more puncture resistant than turfs. I understand that R4's are very desirable for working in a bush where thorn trees grow.
R4's probably are better than turfs on wet ground, although my turfs haven't stopped me cold yet. Going has been pretty slow sometimes though. Turfs may be slightly better than R4's on ice because they flatten out more than R4's under loads and low tire pressures. They put more rubber on the ice.

The just bought a front end loader with my B2910. It was the L402, I paid 2950.00 for it. I also just bought a Woods 72" Rear blade that tilts and angles for 350.00 I think that is really high. ....
