I have a JD 855 from mid 1990? # 70 loader? I would like to be able to use it to load my 1977 F-600 dump truck, however the lift from this tractor/loader leaves me about 4 inches+ to low from being able to clear the top of the dump bed on the truck. Is there any way to increase the lift or height of this tractor? Maybee different wheels and tires, different loader, anything? or any ideas would be greatly appreciated as this is a very handy combo to have. Thanks, Jon.

Jon,

Build a ramp with gravel or whatever you're loading.

Yes a ramp will do it, but you will only be able to load the sides of the truck since the loader is not long enough to reach the center of the bed. ....

Me thinks you already know the real answer to problem. Until you have the money to upgrade. Try loading over the back. If you lift the box partially you will be able to get quit a bit in there. We load big dumps on job sites this way with small loaders, ie: skid steers, smaller backhoes. If you have to load over the side you can dig a shallow hole and refill when you finish the chore.

One of the things I didn't get done (for some years now) is building a loading dock. In my case it's easy since there already is a cut on our drive. I'd simply have to dig back to get a section of cut that's vertical and build a retaining wall.

If the loading is always done at one location and there's a convenient hill, that might be an additional alternative to the good suggestions made. One side of the dump could be loaded and then the truck turned around and the other side loaded. If a dock was fairly high then the loader would be able to reach closer to the centre of the dump bed.

I imagine the tractor already has a grill guard if this sort of work is contemplated 'cause it sounds like otherwise there'd be great potential for mashing the rad.
