I have a MF 231 and the power steering was hard when I turned left only. As you say, like manual steering. I checked the hydralic lines, etc. and everything was okay and pumping as it should. My neighbor fixed it. I did not see it but evidently behind the panel beneath the steering wheel there is a set screw adjustment or an adjustment of some sort. Mine had worked loose. After adjusting it was like I had a new tractor...I had entertained trading off the MF 231 because I hated to mow with it as it was so hard to turn. Good luck. ....
