New guy here! I've finaly got to the point of clearing some of my property - very rugged with heavy cedar coverage (only 75% navigable in a Jeep). Anyhow, I've almost concluded that a crawler is the best way to go and a Magnatrac 5000 Loader/Hoe is within budget. I could be sold on something else and have looked at several rubber tire setups (came away only mildly impressed). I'd sure appreciate your experienced comments on suitable equipment or Magnatracs in general.

some thoughts for you to ponder in your decision...
the new model 5000C magnatrac has a narrower ballast box
under its nose than the older 5000B has. this leaves plenty
of room to adjust the inner track springs. the 5000B has
so little room that it makes it hard to adjust.
also consider getting the new style grousser shoes, they
grab better and are stiffer; unfortunatly they are not
self cleaning.
i considered buying a used (and abused) 5000B, but i got
a new 5000C w/backhoe & loader instead. i've only been
pushing snow with it so far; i'll tell you how it digs in
dirt when the snow melts....

What are you going to do with this property? Did you say you already cleared it or do you want someting to clear it with. A crawler sounds like it's more stable than most rubber wheels but won't the crawler pretty much uproot and trample anything it crosses? Are you going to clear it for lawn or what? The best vehicle for clearing is rubber, if skidders are out of your budget you can get a tractor that's built like a skidder like the 4WD articulated Pasquale's or Ferrari's. They look and handle like little skidders. Throw a wench on it and you're logging. ....
