Have purchased 2 yr. old never used 8b loader from private party. Everthing completely assembled and ready
to go. Need complete mounting kit for 970 tractor. Does anybody know what is included/needed with this kit
to mount backhoe? What about power beyond kit,, what is this and do I need it? Have two hydraulic outlets
at rear of tractor between upper 3pt. swing arms.. Subframe is on backhoe, just need all the parts/brackets
that would go on tractor!! Any info would help.. dealer is struggling with this so far..
thanks!! Mark d.

There's one question about loader mounting and a separate question about backhoe mounting I guess.

If the attachments are JD and ones that are intended for the tractor, a dealer shouldn't have any problem coming up with mounting kits. If they're after-market units, the loader and backhoe manufacturers probably have to supply the kits--if kits are available. If nothing is available, a good metal fabrication shop should be able to make mounts for most implements that are generally the right size for a tractor--but at a cost of course.

As far as I know, The JD power-beyond kit is intended for a JD hoe, and I believe the hoes are supplied with special sized quick-connect fittings to prevent a hoe from being connected backwards. The kit makes it convenient to splice the hoe into the power-beyond return line from a loader valve. An assumption here is that all backhoe-equipped tractors have loaders.

The power-beyond kit is convenient but may not be absolutely necessary. I think you're are describing two rear valve controlled hydraulic circuits on your tractor. I run my backhoe from a valve controlled circuit that is a third valve section in my loader valve assembly. It can be done, but I have to make sure I connect the hoe properly and bungee-cord the valve open and ensure I don't pull the valve the wrong way when the hoe is connected. I haven't had a problem with oil over-heating, but it would run cooler if the hoe were fed from the PB line. It works, but I do have to recognize that I'm taking some minor risks.

Mark--You threw me off with your reference to an "8b loader" and I did not look at your question until now. I have an 8B backhoe and had to add the power beyond kit to my JD990. The good new is that you already have the power beyond couplings on your tractor because the couplings are located where you describe. The bad news is that you will need three quick attachment fittings for your 970. Bear with me now. This is really simple but hard to visualize from a narrative description. First, you need two fittings that mount under the middle of the tractor to lock the front of the subframe, which is already connected to your your hoe, onto the tractor itself. Second, you need one single fitting that mounts directly under the rear PTO housing. This fitting doesn't "lock" anything--it has two Y shaped channels into which you manuever the round pipe on the subframe which is directly under the seat on the hoe. These fittings should have come with the hoe but apparently didn't. You say the hoe is new but is it too late to check with the former owner? They are undoubtedly bolted on his tractor. Failing that, I think you will have to buy them from Deere but I believe the 8B is no longer in production. You could also check every tractor boneyard in the country. Finally, you might call Arps which made the hoe for Deere. I have a number there and they are very helpful. It would be extremely hard to make up these fittings unless you are an a real metal fabricator. (Not sure even Tom G could do it although he may be looking for a winter project.) I can fax you some pictures from my operator's manual if you give me your #. ....

I appreciate the kind words Captain. I just wish I had a well enough equipped place to do tinkering work. I haven't a shop for a long time now, and I'm sort of reduced to theory rather than practice.

Well, an equipment shed is something I've got to get going on and I also am looking for an excuse to tinker with my father-in-law's old South Bend lathe. Maybe even see if my old micrometers are still within tolerance and if my old gas welding regulators can be resurrected.
