Does anyone have an idea on how to replace the seals in a bucket cylinder. I am trying to figure out that snap ring that seems to be holding the Hydaulic Cylinder Rod Guide. D Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think that a special tool makes the job easier for some cylinders but also that Art mentioned that his techs usually use generic snap-ring pliers. ....

Bob.
Once you use Snap-ring pliers to take the ring out and pull the cylinder out, it's fairly easy to change the O-rings and seal. A small 90 degree Awl is helpfull in removing the O-rings and seal. I always unhook the Hydraulic hoses and if possible place a catch basin under the connections and pump the cylinder back & forth by hand to remove the oil inside, before I remove the snap-ring.

Thanks guys for all the advice. My tractor has been up at my sister and brother-in-laws place and I have been trying to do all the the research on the computer. I finally got up to there place this past weekend, and boy did I learn alot about relacing the seals. First of all, everything that I have read throughout the forum talked about this Snap ring. Well, I found out that I have an older style cyclinder. It actually had a metal ring (wire). A buddy at work help remove the wires and replace the seals. both seals on the piston were totally shot. There was rust inside so I am hoping these seals will last a while. Last night I went and put them back on the tractor and it seems that they will hold up.
Again thanks for your help. ....

Thanks for the comment. I haven't heard about wire instead of snap rings, but wire is what I'm apt to find if I ever tear into my own loader. It's good to know that maybe I'll find something other than snap-rings. I'[ve had a roll of safety-wire laying around for about 30 years left over from older ways of doing things.
I hope the seals last and that the rust wasn't an indication that the cylinders might have used some additional attention.
