Yanmar 155D

I have a yanmar 155D. The front loader, a Johnson #24, works very slow. I've changed the hyd oil, and replaced the screen filter with no improvement. The control valves are old and may need replacing. I was wondering if any company makes a small (12 GPM) joystick control valve. If this dosen't fix the problem I would like to install a larger hyd pump. The one that is on the 155D puts out 5 GPM. Has enyone ever put on a bigger hyd pump behind the fuel injector? How big of a hyd pump should I put on. I was thinking about a 10 GPM pump. I am open to any idea's of suggestions.

If the loader doesn't leak down very fast with weight in the bucket then the cylinders and valves are probably OK. If running the curl to the end of its travel and holding the valve opens the pressure relief valve, then the pump probably is pretty good.

The operation of a loader from a 5-gpm pump may be pretty slow, depending on the diameter of the loader cylinders. Operation may even be slower if the pump also drives power steering through a priority valve. Faulty PS components could rob the loader of oil. Most likely the problem is just the relatively small hydraulic pump. The dump is typically the slowest action except for loaders that have a fast dump feature. I wish my loader would dump faster, and the pump is 8-gpm.

I've heard of old Ford farm tractors where additional hydraulic pumps were driven off the front of the crankshaft. There are PTO driven pumps and they are fairly common. Those are some alternatives, but I'd take case trying to 'piggyback' an additional pump off an injector pump or similar drive. The drive shafts and gears probably wouldn’t accept the additional load.

If I were going to add an additional hyd pump to that tractor I would go for a front mount unit if there's room. It would be out of the way and accessible at all times. If that's not an option then I would consider a PTO driven model. It is a bit more of a hassle but I wouldn't try driving one off the injector pump drive. As Tom said, too much stress on parts that weren't designed for it. ....

Besides having a low flow pump , the YM155 has a pressure system (1450 lb I think). A front mount pump was an option for the Johnson & Yanmar loaders on a YM155 ....
