That sounds like a problem that should be attended to. Good chance that the problem results from what musicians and athletes call technique. It's not the tractor, the clodhoppers or the user specifically but just the way all three happen to combine for operation.

The trouble with technique problems is that once something is learned the operation becomes automatic--a habit and almost impossible to change by corrective teaching or coaching. Technique is difficult to correct, but entirely different technique can be taught. In fact that's what many music and sports medicine clinics do. I have been both a paid musician and a soccer player and have suffered my share of technique problems.

A good idea might be sit in the seat with the tractor off and try to figure out differences between when it happens and when it doesn't. The object is to identify specific positions or motions that lead to the problem or a specific sequence of operations for a specific task. Even if something is found, doing something about it might be difficult. Just knowing that 'if I do this, then that happens' is unlikely to keep a person who been operating a tractor awhile from doing it.

My own problem is that most times I don't lace my work boots all the way to the top, which results in big loops in the bow knots. Sometimes the loops catch on a TX case bolt head when I go for the clutch pedal. More aggravating than anything but I suppose I should cut the laces shorter or something.

TOM;

As a musician and a former high school athlete,I understand what you mean by technique.

A guitar for example is not very ergonomic and requires practice to develope technique until eventualy the awkward positions come as second nature. I'm sure that after i crash a few more times pavlovian theory will kick in.

I'm not dimissing this mower just for this. I've always owned cadets and this one lives up to thier reputation.

My problem is this. I had 2 friends try out the mower and asked them to guess what the flaw was . It didnt take any time at all for them to see the problem.

This could potentialy lead to a fatality for a first time user. What really irks me is the designers couldnt possibly miss this. I'm sure that in the initial design this seemed like a great idea, but they couldnt miss it in development, so I could only conclude that either:

(a)they felt that they had invested too much time or money to reassess the problem ,or

(b)there ego blinded them to the problem.

I certainly didn't intend to put the burden for safe operation on the owner. That wouldn't be me. I'm pretty much appalled at the effects 'can do' and 'under budget' corporate heroes seemingly have had on product design and testing. They sure aren't my heroes, nor are the senior executives and share holders who seem to be the main beneficiaries. But that's anther subject and probably one for somewhere else.

My orientation was more figuring out how to cope with the situation. Sometimes a very small change in equipment can change the way something is used and avoid what might be called poor design. For example, Prussian blocks enable soldiers to stand at attention for extend periods. The trick is to find something simple that alters the, I guess the cliche would be, 'user interface.' I don't have any specific suggestions other than noting that Prussian blocks probably wouldn't be desirable for tractor driving..
