Today was quoted a new 4410, 4wd, 12/12 ePowerReverser, folding ROPS, R1s, less mid PTO, iMatch Quick 3-point Hitch System, rear working light, engine heater, $18,000; 430 loader w/ 60" HD bucket, $3,344; MX5 rotary cutter, $1,694; Total rig: $23,068; 5.9% fixed for 60 months, delivery in March 2002. Straight from dealer as of yet with no dickering. Your thoughts on this price would be appreciated. Dealer has two 4400 "leftovers" (12/12 SyncShuttles, R4s) which have been sitting on the lot since August 2000, going for a whopping $450 less than the new 4410. Now why would someone buy an old 4400 which has been sitting outside through 2 winters and 2 summers for roughly the same amount of money when they can buy a new series 4410? Thought about it for awhile, and decided maybe someone smarter than we think. Afterall, the now extinct 4400 was field tested by all of you instead of JD. So now the much-awaited 4000-Ten series has arrived with low and behold, "Bimbo-Proof" transmissions (ePowerReverser and eHydros and Motion Match). Sure hope JD has field tested these features well so that those of us who run into "cement walls", as the dealer told me, "won't stall the engines". I do appreciate that JD "bent" the joystick to give more operator room, and perhaps the iMatch Quick 3-pt Hitch System will be good, but other than that I wish I had at least the option to order the 'ol standard Bimbo SyncReverser and Bimbo Hydro transmissions. I'm hesitant to spend $20K plus without this Bimbo first trying out the Bimbo-Proof stuff to see if it is just that, since cement walls abound on my farm. But I'm building a home on the farm this spring and need a tractor. Maybe the 'ol 4400 isn't so bad after all? Your thoughts.....

Sooper, they are available, as I could have ordered a 4410 from my dealer for March 2002 delivery (at least that is what he told me). I developed my prices and options from an official JD Commercial Products code description list, F.O.B Grovetown, Georgia) After much consideration, however, I ordered a 5220, MFWD, straddle mount, folding ROPS, 9/3 SyncShuttle with creeper gear kit, 540E shiftable economy PTO, tilt steering, CAT 2/1 hitch, mid-mount joystick, 1 rear SCV, horizontal exhaust, telescoping draft links, and cold weather package for 25K even, total delivered price. Was going to get a 4410 and then a bigger ground-engaging tractor later, but decided to get the 5220 for my mowing, landscaping, tilling, and ground engaging work now and work on a smaller compact later for the wife. This came after hundreds of hours of reading CTB responses and applying them to my farm situation. P.S., just talked to a dairyman friend the other day, he has a 4400 his crew uses on the dairy and get this: 4800 hours on it and still working! In two years! (A 1999 model). He had a few bugs at first, but after getting things fixed it's been a fine machine. Hope the 4000 ten series can do the same. ....
