Does anyone know if the JD790 is based on a previous JD model such as the 855 or 955 or a current or previous Yanmar model. Just curious... Also, does it have the aluminum axle housings that have been discussed. I tried a magnet and it stuck to the housing, but that may be the steel axle inside causing the attraction.Thanks.

I thought the 790 was a successor to the 770, but that's just a guess. You would have to have one heck of a magnet to hold to a steel axle through an aluminum housing.

Hi Rob. the 790 started its life about 25 years ago as the 750, and then the 770, and then its current 790. It has a cast iron axle and trans housing, and is built on proven design.
