I have been checking on buying a tractor. I have looked at the kubota and John Deere and the kubota. My question concerns the yanmar. The tires on the yanmar seems to be narrower than the other two. Does this effect the power? Is the yanmar of equal hp as powerful as the other two. Is the yanmar as good as the other two for the price. I have some grade work to do an 4 acres of grass cutting and 2 large gardens to take care of. Any help would be appreciated.

Willie; Pretty subjective quest. There are experts on this site that own one or all of the units you describe. Here's my take. Yanmars are no longer manuf. for U.S. import. You will either be buying a grey market import or an older US model. Parts are readily available for both thru a number of US Auth. Parts Dlrs. don't worry about parts. Yanmar was a very well made tractor with many sophisticated features that the others did not have. Rather than expand here you can go to Yahoo Yanmar owners club and get more info. Deere and Kubota are also fine machines. They have a wide dealer, parts and service network that is usually close to wherever you are. Tire setting does not effect HP as far as I know 25hp is 25hp in any language. It does effect stability, Tires can be set at several width settings on most compacts and this can be changed easily. Most on this board recomend the widest. All of the tractors you mention range up to about 35 hp. After that they ain't compacts anymore. We need to know which model you looked at. Lastly, what are your expectations and budget? Deere and Kubota would be better if you can't do any work on them. Yanmar is a fine tractor but it will be more of an advenure. You should research this site and Yahoo and the links. BTW, I own a Yanmar 336 D 33hp. ....

I sure like some of the information handed out free of charge. Yanmar is as good if not better than JD, why did and still do JD use Yanmar motors.....I like the fact also of people who trade off a Yanmar for a Cub Cadet, thinking they are getting a better machine, Now they own a Mitsubishi. Check us out, parts are no problem at all to get., And, your JD mechanic can still work on it for you........ ....
