I'll be having my 4300 w/ 300 hrs delivered in about a week and a half. The Deere mechanic that will be delivering mytractor advised me that thay are having a winter service special that covers all the filters, change engine oil, check and adjust - all belts, hyd. valves, 3ph, pto, hydro. trans., as well as grease and lube and basically check out the entire tractor. The air filters if needed are extra. Price is $189.00. The owner says all mantanance has been done but this sounds like a good idea to me, if for no other reason than to get the hydro trans and the hyd valves adjusted if needed. The tractor may not be back in the shop for a long time(hopefully) and it would be nice to make sure everthing is adjusted properly before I get it home. Besides that the person that will delever will pick up the tractor and take it to the shop for the same delivery charge($250) for 200+ miles. If I did this later I'd have to pay for hauling to my local dealer(about $100). I think I'll do it.Any comments.

Jerry--for you to change filters, transmission fluid, oil, etc. would take about an hour and cost you, in materials, about $125 if you use all JD labeled products--yet your wording leads me to wonder IF the hydraulic fluid was going to be changed along with its filter (both of those are about $110 of the $125 I mentioned above). I also wonder about adjusting hydraulic valves--do not understand this part--I don't recall anything in my manual about adjusting hydraulic valves (hope this service isn't found under the heading of floobie dust;-) Mike S. ....

Mike
Just talked with the guy I'm buying the tractor from and he told me that he just seviced it 16 hrs ago. The only thing he said he did not do was change the hydro filter-(doesn't call for it at this time). He said to go ahead and do it if I wanted to waste my money but it was not needed. I don't see how he would have any reason to hide anything because this would be done after the tractor has been paid for and picked up. I've got to thinking more about this and have change my mind. I'll save the $189.00 and just to be on the safe side change the hydro trans filter anyway. After all the mechanic checked out the tractor and said it was in perfect running condition. ....

Mike - Also, sitting here thinking about floobie dust. If your floobie dust and my floobie dust are the same, I think you may have hit the nail on the head since this is the same employee of the jd dealer that checked out the tractor for me and said it was in great shape and everything worked very well(floobie dust). ....
