Have a chance to buy a used 72" 3pt snow blower. Have read related "snow blower" posts. Repeatedly (and makes sense) to get one wider than the wheel stance (? it's not wheelbase maybe just plain width) in anycase the 850 is ~ 5'. I'ld guess the next width blower would be 6'. Question does the 850 have enough poop for a 72" blower? Has anyone tried one? I haven't seen the blower yet, but he says his 8N was too fast in reverse and he couldn't use it. I don't know how fast or how much PTO Hp an 8N has. The low range reverse on the 850 is 1.1 mph (spec) and ~ 22.5 PTO Hp. Thanks in advance(great web site)

I use a 5' blower with 24 PTO HP. The turf tires are several inches wider than 5', but that hasn't been a problem. Power also hasn't been a problem, although we haven't had a really big storm the past two years. The big snows seem to be going south and east of us these days. The blower does chew through the heavy birms the highway plows throw across the drive without effort. The birms can be 2'+ high. I don't know, but I suspect that a 6' blower may challenge 22 HP a bit in a heavy snow. Maybe somebody knows for sure.

I have 4 reverse gears and wouldn't want to do with fewer. I use low range when I'm maneuvering around buildings and second otherwise. I think about going to third sometimes but steering in reverse gets a little challenging in third. I think 1-2 mph is a pretty good speed for a blower. My low seems to be on the low side of that range and second on the high end.

I have a J.D.1050 with a 6' blower and if the snow is heavy the tractor is getting a good work out. unless the snow is light and dry, a 6' blower for a 22HP tractor just wont cut it. ....
