My JD 4600 has developed a severe vibration/rattling coming from the front of the tractor. I only notice it during transport speed in Range C and at near full throttle and in two wheel drive. It doesn't do it at full throttle while parked nor in Range A or B. I've removed the side shields and can not find anything loose that would cause the vibration. Any thoughts from my fellow board members?

Terry try putting the rear of the tractor on jack stands and see if you can get it to do it with out the tractor rolling. It will also give you the ability to walk around the tractor and watch for the vibration. ....

With respect to vibration/chattering coming from the front of my 4600 hydro, could it be the hydraulic pump? The noise seems to emit from the left side of the tractor. I check the hydraulic oil level and it is full. I will be contacting my dealer tomorrow. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. ....

Terry, It sounds like you may have noise coming from your mfwd driveshaft. when you are in 2wd and moving at high speed, the shaft will sometimes vibrate. Be sure the area around the exposed shaft under the tractor is clean then spray some silicone lubricant on the shaft where it passes through the center housing. Also spray some on the splined couplings on each end of the shaft. this may cure your problem, atleast temporarily. It may be neccasary to repeat this occasionally due to the shaft being exposed to dirt , mud or whatever. ....

Kenny, Thanks for the suggestion. I checked the MFWD driveline and discovered the culprit. The telescoping plastic housing that protects the MFWD driveshaft was loose. There is hoseclamp that fits around the plastic housing that keeps the telescoping housing in place. The hoseclamp was loose and allowed the housing to vibrate. I suspect the hose clamp was not tightened properly when my replacement axle was installed back in late July. Again, thanks for the suggestion. You probably saved me the expense and time involved with transporting the tractor to the dealership. I would have been without the tractor for a few days as well. Hats off to the Webmaster for putting this message board together. ....
