I have read many messages about the advantages of the JD 4100, and some disadvantages. I currently own a F525 (and power bagger) , but have moved to a bigger yard (1.2 A) with seveal hills which are a little over the top for the F525. I also am currently moving between 40-60 cubic yards of mulch per year. I am looking for advice on what will give me an excellent cut in a reasonable time frame , with material collection system good for grass clippings and leaves. Next I am looking to add the capabilities of a front end loader for the mulch work without the shovel, shovel, shovel excercise. With all of this I was leaning towards the JD 4100, mid belly 54/60", power material collection system and loader. Besides the Almost $18,000 , is there something out there which would service me better, or am I looking for t00 much in one machine. I like to cut the grass , so yard service is not the answer. I have been a Deere fan for 20 years but can look around, I really don't like the orange of the big "K", so the functional aspects really have to be overwhelming for me to go orange.1st priority is cut quality and material collection, cut time is a factor, can anyone help with 1st hand experiences. thanks , in advance.

Gregg: I have a 4100 (hydrostatic) with the 60 inch belly mower and loader, and use it for the purposes you describe. I have R4 industrial tires. I consider the HST transmission and its manuervabilty is mandatory for close, efficient mowing. I believe the 60 inch deck is substantially beefier than the 54 inch. The quality of the cut is outstanding and it is a pleasure to mow with. The loader is strong. I don't know anything about the Kubota, but I'd recommend the 4100 to you without reservation. Andy ....

Gregg, I have a 4100 with a 54" mid-mount mower, which I use for many of the things you want to do. I have no complaints at all. I think that this tractor really offers more features and has more capability than anything else in this size/price tractor. It sounds like you are looking at the right size class for your needs. I would also look at the Kubota B-7500 and NH TC-18 or TC-21. I think that if you compare specs (particularly hydraulic) and price, you will find that the 4100 is hard to beat. BUT, I find a price of $18 K to be unbeliveably high. In January this year, I was getting quotes of around $15.5K for a 4100, loader, and mid-mount mower (54"). In reference to the posted differences between the 60 and 54" decks, I really don't understand how much beefier the 60 could be over the 54 deck. My 54" deck is very well-built with very heavy stock. The unit is extremely heavy and I would think adequate for any finish mowing needs. If you need anything heavier duty than this, I would think that a rotary cutter would be what you need and not a finish mower. ....
