I have approx 1965 IH 240.Hydraulics "hicups" or jumps up and down. There appears to be a bad check valve somewhere. Does anyone know where I can start checking? Any help greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem with my Ford 1700. the problem was caused by the oil leaking past the seal on the lift piston. The oil must be leaking pretty fast for the system to hiccup! it cost about $17.00 to replace the seal. It was easy to replace as the piston is not connected to the rockershaft. The lift cylinder was right under the seat. I blocked up the 3ph and removed the head and then lowerd the lift arms and the piston was pushed right out, replaced the seal around the piston and replaced. I had started reading up about the valves, but when I removed the piston the seal was hard and cracked and just fell off. You tractor is prob different, but maybe this will help JIM ....
