Can someone please give me some specifications and insight on purchasingan ideal brand Compact Tractor that will be used in plowing fields, grading dirt roads and other small jobs.I've went to two dealers so far. One filled a retail purchase order for aZetor 3320 ($16,900 - $3,400 rebate) and another for a John Deere 4400Series $22,000. I've read some of the information about tractors on themessage board and it sounds like the 4300 would do as well. I am not farmiliar with these types of equipment and would appreciate any suggestions in what I need to look for and what I would need to ask atthe dealer. Thanks, ej.

You pay for what you get.Where Zetor's are made, there is a war being waged. How about parts for them when they break down, and they will. For what these things costs it really pays to shop and talk.I have been around tractors my whole life and it still took me 2 months to decide on a JD4500.Look at the top 3(JD,Kubota,NH)figure the options you will want, the size of the machine and price.Look at the dealer, service, parts suppy, etc.,Talk to those that have something close to what you want, they are running them they know.Read the brochures, study them, decide, tell the man to sharpen his pencil and enjoy.Good luck. ....

no war in czech republic, you are thinking south quite a bit. zetor manufactures deere equipment for distribution outside the us. deere owns a big piece of them. dont think that deere would deal with a fly by night operation, let alone allow someone to build an item for them if it was shabbily built. brian. ....

Eunice,Given that you will be plowing, definately consider four wheel drive. Power steering is nice too, particularly if loader work may be involved. Tires are a major expense item - think agricultural since you are plowing, however, they will tear up a lawn pretty quick. Hydro is pretty expensive, but have the advantage where speed and direction changes are frequent. Geared tractors will give constant speed and overall greater pulling power. If you opt for hydro, pay attention to where the brakes are as you will use them for turning. Can't easily do that if you have to take your foot off of the 'gas peddle' first.Hope some of this helps,Lee ....

Apparently you didn't read my post that closely.. There were question marksafter Czech Republic. Obviously you don't need a Rand McNally Road Atlas to figure outthat the Czech Republic is not in the Balkans. ....

I bought a new 3320 last December. It only took me a week to figure out that this was a good tractor, so I bought a second 3320. Zetor tractors were first introduced in the U.S. in 1983 and the same importer has been importing them since 1985. Deere doesn't own any of Zetor, but they signed a license agreement with Zetor in 1993 to market "green" Zetors in Latin America and the Far East."Green" and "red" Zetors are made in Brno, Cz., and "green only" Zetors are made in Saltillo, Mex. My Zetor dealer has a very large inventory of parts. I paid $11,900 for each of my 3320's. Go to www.billstractor.com and follow the links to Zetor to see what I got for my money. Power steering, rear hydraulics, and an air compressor are standard equipment. This is a very comfortable tractor. You'll like it! ....
