My existing fan belt is very old, but to replace it seems to require major hydraulic pump removal. I have a link belt for emergencies.
Has anyone used link belt for normal use? Any other easy way to replace belt?

Unless some one is familiar with this specific machine (I am not) a photograph might help. I have an old Case IH with an Yanar engine, I have spent some time barking knuckles underneath it. I have always believed the emergency link belt is just that, for emergency. Good luck. ....

Yes, I do know that the link belt is for temporary use. But need something should my old one fail.
I watched a YouTube video on a "scarf joint" done to a busted belt and it was incredibly strong.
So, if this really turns out to be as strong as purported I can cut a new belt and join it with the scarf joint. Hmmmm!
Others use wire to 'stitch' a belt together. I am saying: "I do NOT want to deal with the hydraulic pump and hoses and fluid to replace the belt." Of course I need to be on my guard to detect the belt if it breaks so the engine does not overheat. ....

Saying link belts are for temporary repair is an ignorant statement. I've had one on my dozer for over 500 hours, with 700+ hours on the machine. It's doing just fine. Do a little research -
