I have been having a problem with the forward pedal neutral switch which after investigating it turns out to be a proximity switch. When the foward/reverse pedals are in a neutral position the engine will not turn over. Or, if I manage to get it runningand leave the seat the engine shuts down unless I sit back down quickly. I believe this is an adjustment problem with the switch. I can get the engine to turn over and start sometimes if I jiggle the pedals a little.Has anyone experienced this problem and what is the fix.Thanks Tom

I had the same problem last winter. Turned out to be a loose wire on the neutral safety switch. ....

I had the exact same problem on my 4200. My hydro pedals were becoming stiff and wouldn't return to exact neutral. Until my dealer had time to fit me in, I put a jumper lead on the connection to the seat safety switch. This made it much easier to start, because those pedals had to be in exactly the correct position for it to start. I don't know exactly what the dealer did, but it works MUCH better now. ....

Thanks for the help folks.
I had time today to dive into the problem. I found the neutral switch located in the flywheel bell housing under the tractor frame. It is a micro switch device which is actuated by a roller on a lever that centers itself in a "V" shaped grove in the lever plate. This plate rotates in responce to foward/reverse pedal movement. When the pedals are neutral the roller is in the bottom of the "V" and depresses the neutral switch. After I determined the nature of the beast and how it functioned I found that the switch was not being depressed far enough to make the circuit. I loosened the two screws that hold the switch and move it towards the roller. There is not much adjustment in doing this but it was enough to get the switch to make when in the neutral position. Note: the switch is very hard to get to.
Good luck to anybody who tries to make the adjustment. I do not know if this is the factory fix, but it worked for me.
