What is your method of sharpening finish mower blades??? I use a bench grinder to remove all dings, add a straight blunt edge and balance the blade--then use a 6" x 48" bench belt sander (80 grit belt) to put on the final edge, and make sure the blade is still balanced. This is very unorthodox, but puts a fine edge on the blade and doesn't appear to cause the blade to loose its temper as long as I quench the blade frequently. Obviously there must be faster and better ways to accomplish this sharpening task. Also--how many hours of finish mowing before sharpening your blades?? Mike S.

Mike, I do about the same thing, except I have a smaller belt sander. And sometimes I don't even use it at all; just the bench grinder. And as far as how many hours; I don't know, it varies; depends of whether I get into the gravel and such or not. I just check them frequently and sharpen as needed. ....

Mike,
IMHO, your method is about as good as it gets. I bought a special blade sharpening tool to put a specific angle on the blade. After a few mowings...I didn't notice a blessed difference over the old trusty method. ....
