Which JD loader is better. The older model 440 or the new 430 that has replaced it. I have an option of either one on a tractor purchase I am pursuing. I have not found much info on the 440 to compare with the stats on the newer model. Any suggestions?

Chris.. could you check the lift capacity on the 430 again. I do have a new JD brochure that gives the lift cap. for the 430 at 1258lbs at the pivot pin. The 460 is listed as having a lift cap. of 2325lbs. correct me if this brochure is a misprint. How about overall quality. Any idea if the 430 buckets are better, more heavy duty etc. I do know that you can switch the piston mounts to different holes on the older 440 for different attributes. The newer 430 comes w/ hydraulics mounted on both sides so that it's compatible with more tractors, but that's the extent of my knowledge except for this JD brochure. ....

Eric I looked at the wrong column. You are correct the lift capacity on the 430 is 1258 lbs. I do not know a lot about the 440 loader. The information on the 440 came from an old brochure. When I was looking at tractors to buy last fall I did look at a JD 870 with a 440 loader. It looked like a good piece of equipment. I am very happy with my JD 4400 and 430 loader. Chris ....
