My patience with John Deere (4600 hydro) is growing thinner by the day. Still no new front axle and the problem with the hyperactive hydro control is still not resolved. The fuel starvation problem appears to be resolved. Ths problem with the overly sensitive foot control hydro is so irritating that I will not keep the tractor if Deere can't fix it. On rough ground in range B you have to use the cruise control. There is no choice. Deere has replaced the shock absorber on the linkage control but this did not make a difference. I drove a 4700 hydro today and thought the hydro was not as sensitive. However this was just a short ride around the dealers lot. If the problem is not resolved I plan to trade on the Newholland TC40D with the 84" midmount rear discharge mower. I have no experience with rear discharge finishing mowers. I need help from those of you who have them. I had a Deere 60" three point hitch rear discharge mower that produced windrows. I was not impressed so I sold the mower. I would like to hear from those of you with rear discharge mowers.

I have a TC29D with a Land Pride FDR2572 rear discharge finish mower, which is a 3pt hitch pull behind type. It has high lift blades which create a lot of suction. Each blade runs within it's own air tunnel and disharges out the back. The disharge is very even, much better than some side discharge mowers I've used. The grass clippings come out fairly well mulched. It works the tractor pretty good in tall thick grass, but it always does a nice job. I don't know how it compares to the other brands' rear discharge, such as Bush Hog and Woods, but the Land Pride specs show a higher blade tip speed plus the height can be adjusted easily without tools (it uses pins instead of nuts).

I occasionally had the same windrow, clumping problem with my 5' Befco rear mount, 3-pt finishing mower, especially if I couldn't get round to it for some reason and the grass was long (or damp). It was unsightly and tended to kill the grass under the windrow. I tried remowing the windrows to mulch the grass and mowing at faster and slower sppeds but it didn't seem to help much. Eventually I invested $166 for a mulching kit which so far seems to have cured the problem. The only drawback is that I have to mow at a slightly slower speed (but not much) and that the baffles of the mulching kit tends to lay over long weed grasses and not cut it to the proper height, needing a second pass to tidy it up. It handles the lawn grass beautifully. I'm going to try raising the mower 1/2" and see if that helps. ....

I use a Bush Hog brand 5' rear discharge 3-point finish mower, and couldn't ask for anything better. I've never been able to tell that it puts any load on the tractor at all (B2710) and it does a beautiful job on the lawn. I tried it once on some knee high grass and weeds along the road right-of-way just to see how it would do, and found that it still never seemed to load the tractor, but if I went too fast, it would lay the grass down and not cut clean. Very slow and it cut just fine. But on normal lawn grass, I can run just about as fast as I want to, sometimes wide open in mid-range. ....

I just wanted to point out one more thing regarding a TC29D and a Land Pride FDR2572 finish mower. I don't like to mow any more than I have to, so by the time I do the grass gets tall and very thick and dense in some areas of my yard. And, when I mow I mow fairly close to the ground so it will be longer before I have to mow again (I got this tractor and mower because I like having a big yard, 3 1/2 acres, but don't like spending too much time mowing it!). The lower the mower is the more suction it creates, so the more power it will take to run it. My yard also has a lot of hills. So, when I said "It works the tractor pretty good in tall thick grass", that's in those tall thick areas going up hill where I have to slow down a little to keep the PTO speed at 540. It could be the hill that's working the tractor more than the thick grass, since the tractor weighs 2500lbs (with front weights) and the mower weighs 650lbs.

I just received my TC33D yesterday. So far we have had nothing but rain in Ohio. I will let you know how things go with it... if my wife lets me use it... ....
