I have a Duetz Allis 5215HST and just realized that the hour meter runs off the tachometer drive...there are no wires going to it. Would it be fair to assume that at PTO speed, it would count 1 hour in 60 minutes and that anything more or less than PTO speed would be inaccurate? Do other compact tractor hour meters do the same thing.....?

you will find that most tractors you run across with the hour meter in the tach are driven off the tach cable...much like an odometer in a car and yes it isnt all that accurate at in terms of time at speeds other than 540 pto rpm ....

I have a ford 1620 model and the owners manual says that at lower than 1867 rpm it accumulates hours at a slower rate than clock hours; and above 1867 rpm, it accumulates faster than clock hours. Hope this helps. ....

The Kubota's, at least the newer ones, measure real hours regardless of engine speed. You can buy electric hour meters that measure real hours for not much money. You could add one of these to your tractor. It would be interesting to see how the actual hours compared to the RPM hours. ....
