I'm currently evaluating 30 hsp tractors. Tried a TC29 gear. Not real impressed. Smoked a lot on startup (after much cranking). Plus lots of double clutching to shift ranges. Gear shift mounted low and inconvenient. Plus no live PTO. Drove a Kubota L3010 HST. Very impressed, real nice machine. Started easily (no smoke) ran very very smooth. Shifting ranges was very easy. Maybe just an impression but the Kubota seemed very solid. Anyway, I'm strongly considering a gear tractor (10 acres of open land to mow/maintain). I didn't get a chance to drive any gear Kubota's. The L3010DT seems to have a nice setup. Gear shift up high on the left and a fwd/rev lever on the console. Anyone own one? Do you like it?

Peter, I have a 3410HST and mow 7.5 acres with a 90inch rear mower. I LOVE IT! I use to do the same area with a diesel 72inch Toro groudsmater (which I now use for trimming) but at only half the speed and half the comfort. I have hilly land and do a lot of FWD to REV moving so the HST is perfect - on a steep hill just ease up on the pedal to slow down and maintain power - in direction changing the PTO is constant. If you want any more info just contact me. ....
