I would like to put a hydraulic top link on my JD4400. I belive there is something called a "Hydraulic beyond kit" for the 4000 series tractors and my question is has anyone had one of these put on there tractor and is this what I need for a hydraulic outlet on the back of my tractor to operate hydraulic implements. I currently have a DSV for the 430 loader. Also any Idea on the cost and is this something I could install myself or will it require the dealer to install. Thanks, Tom

I when I purchased my 4400 I had the dealer install a 3rd control valve & rear outlets. It cost about $300.00. I dont know about the top link.

There are two different rear hydraulic options here for the JD 4400. One is called the "power beyond kit" and is generally used for the backhoe attachment. It has no control valve; it essentially is a straight tap off the hydraulic pump. Typical price is $125 (www.jdlawns.com). The "3rd SCV" that Chris referred to is exactly what it sounds like; the additional selective control valve mounts behind/below the seat with the hydraulic couplers. The 3rd SCV control lever mounts up on the right fender in front of the cupholder and is connected to the SCV via a cable assembly. This 3rd SCV was running about $160 last summer, but now it is up around $210-220. Maybe it has been redesigned some? The cable linkage didn't give the same feel and feathering capability that a rigid mechanical connection would have. Anybody know? ....

Guess it's obvious that a control valve is needed for a hydrolic top link, most rear blades, snow blowers etc.. I have one which is mounted beside the loader controls. I didn't think the set up was all that specific to a given tractor. It's just a mounting plate for the valves and a bracket to hold it onto the tractor.
For backhoe use, the hoe is connected to the rear hydrolic hoses and the rear control valve is held open with a bungee cord. Of course, you have to be very clear on which rear hose gets pressure when the control valve is pushed in the direction it will be held. You also have to be aware that a lot of damage can be done if the valve is pulled the wrong direction while the hoe is connected.
