I've seen the messages from other novice buyers who are interested in a subcompact tractor, but aren't sure how to proceed. This seems to be the consensus from occupants of the chat room:
A JD2210 or a Kubota BX series seems to be enough tractor to tackle the following chores: 1/2 acre of finish cut; 1 acre of rough cut; pull a 1500 pound trailer load, and a FEL for other, undefined chores. The quality of the local dealer seems to be more important than price. Since I'm only an occasional user, a used model would be OK.
Do I have a correct understanding?

IMHO a sub-CUT is capable of mowing much more than the 1 acre rough and 1/2 of finish. The BX is also available with a factory Back-Hoe, suitable for light to moderate digging. Dealer relationship is the largest part of satisfaction. ....

bobkro32: Yes, either tractor wiil do the jobs you mention. You are right on target, a good dealer relationship is much more important than whether the hood is green or orange. Absolutely nothing wrong with buying used, but again buy from a dealer you're comfortable with and who has a good reputation for sevice. Frank. ....

Just for the info, there are a few other tractors that fall into the sub-CUT category. Massey Ferguson has the GC2300 and GC2310 (2310 has loader and backhoe), CaseIH and New Holland each have their own version of the same machine (only styling differences between the two), and Cub Cadet offers a few models, including versions with 2WD and gas engines. All the others are 4WD diesels. From what I have seen, all these tractors are remarkably similar in specs and features. ....

Thanks for your info. It's nice to have some experienced folks give a helping hand.
I'll try to work with a dealer to find a used model that fits my needs, now that I know I'm in the ballpark.
Thanks again.
