We are endeavouring to rebuild a TE65 rotary hoe and need some assistance with the Aisan carburettor. There appears to be two fuel inlets and we are not sure what is what!!

Does anyone have a picture or manual of a carburetor setup on one of these showing how to connect fuel?

Thank you
GW

You’re right to pause—on many Aisan float-type carbs there’s one true fuel inlet and the other spigot is not a feed; it’s usually a bowl vent/overflow (sometimes routed to atmosphere or the airbox). If you hook the pump/tank to the vent you’ll flood the carb.

Here’s a quick way to tell which is which (no manual needed):

“Blow test.” With the carb off the machine, connect a short hose to one nipple and gently blow while moving the float up and down.

The real inlet will seal shut when the float is raised (needle closes) and flow when the float drops.

The vent/overflow will never seal with float movement—it just passes air/fuel freely.

Visual check (bowl off). Look for the passage that leads directly to the needle/seat; that nipple is the inlet. The other typically goes to the bowl vent passage.

If your unit has a primer bulb/diaphragm setup: one line is from tank to carb inlet (with the filter), and the other is a return/purge line back to the tank via the primer—not a second inlet. (Layout varies by small-engine carbs, but the two-line principle is the same.)

Where to get a picture/manual

Hinomoto TE-series engine manual (covers models including “TE…65” engines) pops up occasionally; this listing shows a “40 Tractors Engine Service Manual fits Hinomoto models TE40A/65/80…”—helpful for fuel system diagrams. eBay

If you want, snap a photo of your carb (both nipples visible, plus choke/airbox side). I might be able determine which barb is the inlet and show where to route the vent/overflow (to atmosphere or airbox, not pressurized). ....

Thanks for the response, I will endeavour to get a photo this week.

We think we have identified which one is the fuel entrance but wondered what the other was for, as it leads to a sort of side device with a couple of small orifices.
