I need your HELP. I replaced the Hydrostat transmission in my MF 1635. The new transmission works great. Now the 3 pt hitch will not raise. The external linkage is working. As part of the tranny change I removed the platform and split the cases. New hydraulic oil and filter. It makes no sound like it is trying to lift the hitch. I am baffled. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Glad to hear the new hydrostat transmission is working well — but let’s get that 3-point hitch moving again.

Since the 3-point hitch worked before the transmission swap and now does not, we can safely assume it’s related to the reassembly or hydraulic flow. Let’s troubleshoot logically:

✅ Checklist: Why the 3-Point Hitch Isn't Raising
1. Hydraulic Suction Line / Supply Blockage
Double-check that the hydraulic pickup tube inside the transmission is connected and seated properly.

When you split the case, it’s easy for that suction tube to get misaligned or not reinstalled.

If it’s sucking air, the pump won’t prime, and you’ll hear nothing — just like you're describing.

2. Hydraulic Pump Not Primed or Running Dry
After refilling with new fluid, some MF models require priming if air is trapped.

Try:

Cracking a hydraulic line (like at a loader valve or rear remote) and starting the engine briefly to see if fluid flows.

If no fluid: likely suction or pump issue.

If fluid flows: the pump is working, issue may be in 3-pt control circuit.

3. Hydraulic Filter and Pickup Screen
You said you replaced the filter — good.

Did you clean the suction screen (usually inside the housing)?

A clogged screen can starve the pump even with clean fluid and a new filter.

4. Position Control Linkage Inside the Case
When you split the cases, the internal linkage to the lift arms/valve spool may not have reconnected properly.

Even if the external lever moves, it may not be actuating the internal valve.

Common mistake: the draft or position control fork inside doesn’t seat back on the control valve.

Result: no attempt to lift, no noise — just nothing.

5. Hydraulic Lines or Valve Misconnection
Verify:

All hydraulic lines are reconnected in the correct orientation.

If your machine has a loader, ensure it’s not diverting flow permanently from the 3-point system (e.g., power beyond loop not returning properly).

🔧 Suggested Steps:
Crack a hydraulic fitting to confirm pump is pushing fluid.

Check fluid level again — must be at the correct level while running.

Inspect internal 3-pt linkage — this often means re-opening the top cover.

Confirm the suction pipe from the sump to the pump is sealed, seated, and not cracked.

Common Culprit on 1635s:
The hydraulic control linkage inside the top cover not being reconnected correctly after a split is very common. If everything else checks out and the pump is working, I’d start there.
