Howdy Chris,
I saw that you helped someone with an estimate of what a tractor should sell for. I'm looking at a 336D Yanmar. Any idea how much this tractor might go for? I went to the The Farmers Hotline website but I couldn't find a historical record what that tractor has sold for in the past. thanks, aleph

Howdy. I own a Yanmar 336D with the factory loader, and have followed the market on them for years. Tell me a little about the machine and I can pin it down for you in Colorado dollars. ....

I don't know the year of the 336D but it is in good condition. It was used in a nursery and has about 1700 hours on it. It was maintained by the same mechanic since in was purchased. It currently doesn't have a loader on it but the mechanic who is selling it plans to put in on. I think the tractor by itself would be about $6200 and another $2800 to add a loader to it. Also I don't think it has a ROPS roll bar on it. Does this seem like a fair price? ....

Unless there is something wrong with this tractor you had best jump on it. It is a good price, and slightly under what you usually see them sell for. You are not likely to do better. Thats a darn good price on the loader as well. If it is the original Yanmar loader the price is exceptional. The 336D is a 4wd tractor with power and shuttle shift, and power steering. Because it is a US model, parts are well supported at the US distributor and local dealers. ....

Hmmm....here I am re-reading my answer and thinking "what's wrong with wha I said? It sounds like I'm advertising the darn things!" Of course you have to modify it with the bias that I own one and like it. They are real rugged machines, in spite of the fancy transmission. In fact, the hydraulic clutches in that transmission make it hard to damage them by rough shifting. That's a plus. But the lack of a ROPS could be a real negative. It doesn't bother me, but it sure does some (smarter) people. Yanmar USA still supplies the ROPS for that tractor, and I've heard that most manufacturers do this at their own cost. But if you want the ROPS, then you ought to check into the actual cost. You can phone one of the Yanmar dealers who post on this forum. The manin trouble spots on the 336D were the front axles and the front driveshaft, both of which tended to leak oil past the seals. You can ignore it till it is time to replace the seals - at which time it will cost several hundred dollars to replace all of them. ....

Howdy Roger! Thanks for the info! Currently the 336D does not have a loader and I don't think that the one that the mechanic is planning to put on is a factory loader. Is that a problem or are most loaders basically the same?
Thanks, aleph ....

With the compact tractor loaders, most of the difference is in the aesthetics: how they look on the tractor. I happen to think that the original 336D factory loader was well matched visually. Nope, haven't heard of any problems with loaders made in the last 20 years. Yes, there are slight differences in the specs and the way that they operate, but I'm betting that you won't ever notice.
What is important is to get a loader that is sized for the particular compact tractor. Old fashioned loaders designed for small farm tractors are just too heavy for a compact. ....
