I have heard great things locally about Kubota, so I've mostly been looking at them. Anyway we have 29 acres, 12 relatively flat and currently hayed by farmer. I want to open up another 5-7 acres after they are bulldozed for fruit orchards and vines for wine grapes. maybe just a hobby, maybe part of an entertainment winery/tourist attraction. Grade is not flat in back where orchards will be, maybe 3 percent to 8, and there is some limestone outcropping in places. need to keep creekbeds clear, need to have trail maintained to pull timber out of woods for heating.Questions: 1) other than option to bale do i need 35 HP or over. 2) What is a good Kubota for small orchards? i assume wheel base is of some importance, as well as turning ability on a grade. 3) Lots of talk about 4310 but little on M4700, which is pitched by Kubota as best all around small ag/orchard/landscaping tractor. Is this a new model? Is there any reason other than price to avoid low M series and go with high end L series? M4700 looks more like a farm tractor to me, and is not that much bigger in size or wheelbase. Anyway some have said that I could just get L2350 for $8500 used and its fine, but implements seem to be quite restricted as to their ability, and I will be doing things around the farm, and it seems like if one is going to have a loader it should be able to load some heavy stuff.Any helpful advice would be appreciated. It would be nice to have a bale option, but there are so many farmers around here that bale it really doesn't make a huge degree of sense to pay a lot for just this capability. I'm not knowledgeable on Kubotas, so I can't help you there. But most compacts are similar regardless of brand. It sounds to me like you need at least 35 HP, and 45 would be a better figure. The reason is more for the overall size of tractor than the horsepower. In other words, you need a small farm tractor. As you have noticed, the small farm tractors and the large compact tractors overlap in price and in size, but the farm tractors tend to be much heavier built throughout. Don't get me wrong....You can do the work with a compact. It won't hurt the compact tractor. It just takes a lot longer to do the same job when it comes to tillage or heavy work. They all mow, drill post holes, carry a few hundred pounds in the loader, and that sort of thing at the same rate. Farm tractors often have a lower center of gravity and the ability to move the wheels out a lot farther. Therefore they are less "tippy"... Roger ....

It will either fit your tightest dimension or it will not. You should try to plan ahead to avoid "expensive surprises."
