I am considering a new John Deere 4600. I know there were scuffing problems with the lower models numbers but was this a problem with the 4600? Are there any other first year problems that should be addressed? How does one know if it is a new model or last years? Basic price on HST, 4WD, DSCV? Thanks. I know there is one on my dealers lot but I want to know the basics beforehand. I have a 4100 but we also need a larger tractor.

Droz, I just took delivery of my new 4600 Hydro MFWD, turf tires with 72" mid mount mower and 460 loader. The tractor was built about a month ago and has the old style MFWD, consquently, it scuffs. My dealer has been in contact with Deere and they will replace the MFWD axle. I am told that the new axle will not available on the 4500-4700 until late this month or at late as the end of May. Replacement axles will probably not be availabl until June. I like the tractor although there are some changes with respect to controls and comfort issues I would like addressed. The 4 cyclinder engine is smooth and actually seems quieter than the 4300 I traded. ....

Thanks Terry. Could I asked what you paid for it (with a breakdown of costs if possible)? The dealer wants $21,500 for the 4600 with 4WD, HST, DSCV and insdustrial tires and folding ROPS. I would assume from what you said that if it has been built already, it has the old scuffing problem. ....
