I removed the PTO in my tractor, and didn't pay careful enough attention to the disassembly. I removed the copper coil that was damaged, rewound, reassembled, and now I'm having no luck putting it all back on the tractor. I have been unsuccessful in finding a clear depiction of all parts and the order in which they need to be put back on. if you refer to: http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=cub_cadet&mn=1720+S%2FN+147%2C088+-+207%2C400&dn=0028950010&dzl=71, it shows all the parts I have and the order they go on, but it also refers to a bellville washer, which it does not show in the schematic nor tell where it goes. When I tighten the parts on in the order it depicts, it will be constantly engaged. Does the bellville washer go on before the big washer in the bottom of the schematic? Any help would be appreciated. I finally got the PTO rebuild and can't get it reinstalled...how funny is that?

Well Jim it really isn't funny, but we all have to laugh at ourselves now and then. Telling you I never had a part or two left over would be a lie.
Possibly a dealer would help you out with a schematic showing where the bellvell washer goes. If you aren't a regular customer they may charge a few bucks for a copy, but well worth it to get the PTO going.

I don't have a schematic and haven't had one apart in a long time. The belleville spring washer is used to spread the clutch discs apart. The clutch plates should have a gap of about .017/.021" if I remember correctly. If you tighten it too tight, the clutch will not release. With too wide a gap, it will not engage. When you are borderline, the clutch will usually engage when cold, but not re-engage when hot. ....
