Preparing to purchase my first tractor. And thinking about a good used one instead of new. I like the 1610D because of the power shift transmission vs regular trans and can't see spending extra for a hydro just for a weekend toy. Any suggestions or comments on the above. I need all the help I can get with this decision.

Used equipment makes sense if you know that it was taken care of by its prior owner.
I tend to favor the big three manufacturers simply because of reputation, parts, and service. I can get parts for each one of the big three where I live, but not for Yanmar. Your situation may be different, and I don't know of any other negatives for Yanmar tractors in general.
I like gear transmissions others like HST. This is more of a personal preference issue. It is almost like a religion and there are few converts from one side of this fence to the other. I don't know the Yanmar Powershift transmission myself, but if it is a shift on the fly synchro tranny, you will like it compared to the older style non-synchro transmissions. ....
