Having some issues with the older square head light 6x4 gasser. Was sluggish and not able to get up to speed so children put in some gas from large gas holding tank (280 gallon from last season) started to run really bad. like half speed could not make it up hills and back fired could smell gas not burning.
So we started with the spark plugs while old they did not improve the problem.
Replaced the drive belt and then noticed a very large amount of shaking and vibration at idle and when moving so much so that we stop and backed up making lots of noise. looked under the gator and noticed that only 2 of the 4 bolts holding the engine in place where there. moved the motor back a little to realign bolts and installed new bolts.
Shaking continues.
Cleaned carb bowl, replaced fuel filter no change.
Not sure what else to look at lots of shaking when the gas pedal is stepped on. wondering if something is not aligned or out of wack.
Has anyone else had any of these issues?

I assume it has good gas now. Does it vibrate with the belt off? If it does it is the drive clutch. Does it vibrate in neutral with the belt on? If it does it is the driven clutch. Check driven clutch by pushing back on rear sheave and try to rock it side to side to check for play in the center bushing. ....

So i took the velt off and it shook like a leaf on a tree. Does that mean its the drive clutch? Couldnt move the driven clutch. Is it a big job to do the drive clutch? Im handy. Decent in the shade of a tree. ....

You can remove the cover with the three visible bolts. My guess is one of the legs is broken off the spider. ....

It sounds like you should be more than capable of overhauling the primary clutch. It also sounds like you got a batch of bad gas into it. For a while, I was buying ethanol-free gas for my motorcycles. I got a bad batch and it affected three machines in a similar way--missing, vibrating, and not revving out. It's water and age. Gas that has ethanol in it will absorb a lot of water without your being able to see it in the bottom of a container. Fuel stabilizer helps against aging, but not against water, and can only do so much. I've gotten to the point that I rotate my gas at home through my truck, and try to keep things fresh in the equipment that doesn't get used a lot. Rebuilding the clutch is not a bad job. The worst of it is the in/out of the clutch itself, though I guess you might be able to do it without removal from the engine. Gatoraider knows what he's talking about. ....
