Hi all, wonder if anybody here can help.
My 6X4 Gator, when I bought it had done just 2018 hours, but was in very bad shape. I totally stripped it, got rid of all the rust, repaired the seized engine (Kawasaki FD620D), rewired it and at that time replaced the needle valve and float in the carburettor.

One hundred hours later, fuel started pouring out of the vent which comes out of the top of the float bowl. I have taken the carb off and cleaned it thoroughly - no difference. Another inspection showed that the float seemed to be tilting much further than it should to shut off the fuel. The needle valve has no wear. Needing to use the Gator, I fabricated a small brass clip with a hump on it that fitted onto the float where it makes contact with the needle valve, thus making the fuel shut off sooner. This worked fine for several weeks of daily use, but now it has started to intermittently leak fuel once more. My temporary fix is still in place.

Has anybody else had this problem? Could the valve seat be loose in the carburettor body? Do I need to replace the carb body?

I think you need a carb needle. They have a small extension on the top of them and this wears down after time through abrasion with the tab on the float. It is a fairly common problem with higher hour machines. I know you said you had a spacer on the float, that could possibly be askew and binding the needle. ....

Thanks for the response. I will certainly be replacing the needle ... however it is only 100 hours old. ....
