4x2 Gator Pops Out of Gear

My 4x2 Gator has started popping out of gear on occasion. It seems to only happen when starting out. It will get almost to the middle of the rev band and then pops out of gear. No noise...no jarring...just comes out of gear. Any ideas?

The first thing is to see if it is going all the way into gear. There is a shift collar that rides on the input shaft and it locks on 2 spring loaded balls when in gear. If it isn't going all the way in, the collar won't lock. Just a matter of adjustment there. Also, sometimes the spring will break and it won't put enough load on the balls to hold the collar. The spring goes all the way thru the input shaft and pushes balls out each side. After that, there are 2 gear kits that Deere sells to replace worn parts in the transaxle, but it has to be torn down to find out what's wrong. If you can't get it with adjustment, it has to come out. ....
