Ford used Shibaura engines in some of their mid-80's compacts--my 1710 for example. The Ford engines have a code stamped into the side of the block. I think the code for my 1710 is H873. I don't know if the engines used by Ford and those in Shibaura tractors use the same code. However, you should be able to get engine parts from New Holland if it's one of the engines used in a Ford. ....

Thank you Tom for your reply. I am aware of the engine designation numbers stamped on Shibaura engines. This an engine series number stamped on all shibaura engines regardless of there specific application. The numbers stamped on mmmy SD1843 are H763. This particular engine is similar to your 1710 and some parts are interchangeable. However the thermostat housing is not.
Thankyou for your followup and just for interest, Ford and subsequently New Holland still use Shibaura engines and drive trains in their compact tractors.
