What does a hinged rear moldboard on a box blade get you over a fixed rear type?

The thing I've always heard is that shallow front blade angles on a fixed cutter model are limited because the front cutter can take only very shallow cuts before it starts riding on the rear cutter, which stops the cutting action. If you're trying to take a deep bite, the rear cutter also gets in the way.

I've also heard that hinged ones spread better. I guess that's because the box rides on the bottom of the front cutter rather than the back of the rear cutter. Don't know. These may be pretty minor differences. MY fixed type does all I want of it, but then I've never used anything else. ....
