Small Spreader Experience

I need some advice. I need to spread a thin layer of Leafgro on my yard. A few years ago, I rented a Bobcat and it was not terribly efficient at spreading the soil.

Recently, a neighbor got a nearby farmer to spread some leafgro using a large lime spreader. My subsequent search has found a small ground driven fertilizer spreader which holds 800#, available from Wikco and others. Has anyone used one of these small spreaders? How would it compare to a small manure spreader?

I am using a large garden tractor with a bucket to load it and tow it, so the weight should not be a problem. I am concerned that the small unit will not spread the soil like the larger units will.
