I've got a 4200 and I'm researching the same issue. Probably won't find anything new under $500...Bushhog's is about $1200! Dealer/commercial mower advised that a plugger tears up the turf so much it's only useful about twice a year; therefore, a spike areator may be the better alternative that can be used more often. Leinbach has a 3ph 60" and 72" spike retailing at Lady and King (Bristol, TN) for $400 & $450 respectivley. The drum is fillable with water, sand, etc. Instead of pluggers, it has metal triangles welded on the drum that look like they'll go 3-4" deep. I mow 2 acres with a 60" mulching mower in Upper East Tennessee. Search "aerators" for manufacturers. Hope this helps. ....

A core aerator twice a year will do a heck of a lot more for the turf than spiking repeatadly. A core removed allows oxygen, water and fertilizer easy access to the root zone. The hole will fill up with new root growth in a matter of weeks. New root growth = new top growth. Spiking COMPACTS the soil where impacted. ....
