Hi. New member, first post. Have the neighbors Massy 1428v in my barn to find what I thought could be a hydraulic leak, turns out it is the inline electric fuel pump leaking. A call to the local dealer to find a new one from Agco is over $250. Kinda steep. Has anyone substituted a more generic pump for the factory unit? Or is there one specific to another tractor that would work?
Thanks

Yes, it is possible to use a universal inline electric fuel pump as a substitute for the expensive factory unit on a Massey 1428V, provided you match the key specifications. In many cases, these aftermarket pumps are identical to the OEM parts but cost significantly less.
You must match the following specifications to ensure the new pump works correctly with your tractor's diesel engine:
Pressure (PSI): Your replacement pump must operate at the same low-pressure range as the factory unit. Diesel lift pumps typically operate at 4–7 PSI. A pump with too much pressure can damage the system.
Voltage: The pump must be a 12V DC unit.
Flow Rate (GPH or LPH): Look for a pump with a sufficient flow rate to meet the engine's fuel demands, but for a stock engine, a typical universal unit with 30–35 GPH (Gallons Per Hour) or 110–130 LPH (Liters Per Hour) is more than adequate.
Hose Size: The pump's inlet and outlet ports should match your existing fuel line size, which is commonly 5/16-inch (8mm) on universal models.

Thank you, sir. What I've found is the faulty pump appears identical to those used on JD, Kubota and many others. The original one is of chinese manufacture, and I'm sure the generic ones are as well. It's fairly easy to get to so if the one I ordered doesn't do so well, at least it's a simple job to do it again. ....
