Well, after driving everything (Deere, Kubota, Cub Cadet, Branson) I selected a Kubota 4330HST with the BH90 backhoe, 853 FEL with a quicktach bucket, box blade and post hole digger. I'm going to pay for the post hole digger this weekend doing my perc test holes alone. :) Should have it delivered on Thurs or Fri, minus the BH90. The dealer threw in wheel weights and a block heater.

After driving everything, it was really between the Deeres 4410 and 4610, and the Kubota 3130 and 4330. The deere dealers wouldn't move much, and under the guise of "showing me their cost" they had some creative math on their worksheets. I don't mind paying them their take so they can keep the lights on, but don't pretend to be straight and get shifty with their "new math"...

I made the decision primarily on the comfort (I'm a smaller guy, and the deere left me constantly reaching my legs far for the pedals). The deere was probably sized for more normal people (I'm 5'5"). Also, the cold weather performance of the deere was interesting. I did my test drives in 26 degree weather, and the deere started rough, made a lot of noise when I drove it, and the seat was difficult to adjust.

The deere cost a fair bit more too, and the dealer wouldn't throw in wheel weights, or give any on price. In a wierd way, I was hoping to buy deere - I have a lot of friends who work at Deere and catapillar, but even they think that there are better values now. Too bad. I have just trained my overseas replacement (Telephony software) and hate to see jobs go elsewhere, although I guess Deere is already past that point. I figured buying a deere in some small way would help my friends out...

I didn't beat the kubota guy up too much on price. He offered a fair price based on what I've seen on this board, and you can't find a used kubota anywhere in the area. My neighbor spoke highly of the kubota dealer; She lives alone and they have taken good care of her, coming out to do warranty work, etc.

Thanks for all your help guys! I'll post pictures, but I guarantee they will be dirty (muddy!).

John

Congratulations on your new tractor. It wasn't to many years ago there was a big deal in Rochester a city near here and they wanted their new payloader to be american made. Well as it turned out it wasn't one with an american name that is built here! Cutter could talk more of that as it did set some conversations off! ....

Congratulation HuckMeat. The feeling of getting a new tractor is kind of like Christmas morning when you were a kid huh.
