Can anyone help me with some information? I'm trying to find historical prices...say 1970 for a compact Kubota and a comparable compact North American manufactured tractor (Deere, etc). I'm writing a study on the effects of exchange rates on establishing market dominance. In this case, it is a well known story that the North American manufacturers ignored the compact tractor market for years and Kubota established itself very well. I'm wondering if the North American manufactures could have done anything about Kubota if they had been paying more attention.

Jerry, there were no U.S. manufacters that had any compact tractors in their line up. The market for us here was larger 2 wheel drive tractors with 35pto horsepower being about as small as they came. The manufacters ignored the 4 wheel designs and did nothing with it till late 70's at best The first four wheel drive tractor mass-produced was the SAME out of Italy which I believe was around 30 horsepower. They found it was better to do more with less do to the fuel prices the same as the orient. Here we continued to build bigger ag tractors in two wheel drive except of coarse the steiger style. Art ....
